ATTENDANCE – CLINICAL/SIMULATION (SIM) LAB
· Clinical experiences will be composed of , simulation lab, on campus and skilled nursing facilities. Students must be able to meet the “minimum abilities” as outlined in Lamar State College Orange Course Catalog. See Lamar State College Orange Course Catalog, Academic Integrity Policy
· Students must be able to meet the “minimum abilities” per program requirements. There are no provisions for “light duty” assignments. Students who are under the provisions of a healthcare provider’s care are required to submit documentation from their physician monthly stating that they have no restrictions and are able perform clinical assignments.
· If a student will be absent from or tardy to clinical, he/she must notify the instructor prior to the occurrence. A “No call/No show” is considered unprofessional conduct and will result in loss of points on the clinical grading criteria for unprofessional conduct.
· Students who receive three counseling notes for unprofessional conduct will be considered for dismissal from the program.
· Students will follow instructions in the course syllabus when they are unable to attend clinical. The student must call his/her clinical instructor. If the instructor does not return the call, the student should call the nursing administrative assistant requesting the message be delivered to the proper instructor. The student must speak to someone.
· Students who arrive to clinical late will be counseled. Students arriving to facility clinical between 6:31am-6:50am (7:31am-7:50am for on campus/SIMS clinical) will be counted tardy. Any arrivals after these times, the student will be sent home with a clinical absence. Three clinical tardies will be equivalent to one absence with all consequences of an absence.
· There are NO excused absences. If an absence is absolutely unavoidable the student MUST call in appropriately. Students may only miss two days of clinical. The student who misses the third clinical day will be dismissed from the program.
· Students must follow the clinical absenteeism policy stated in the clinical syllabi each semester. There are NO exceptions to any student who misses more than the allowed clinical absences per semester. Exceeding the absenteeism policy will result in dismissal from the program.
· Sim lab, On-Campus, and facility clinical are considered clinical experiences, therefore, the above attendance rules apply.
Clinical orientation is mandatory! Students who do not attend the required clinical orientations will be dropped from the Program.
Assignments: Assignments may be assigned by the instructor. These assignments must be turned in by the date and time designated by the instructor. All assignments must receive the score designated by the instructor to be satisfactory.
Federal regulations require students who receive financial aid to have begun “attending” and participate substantially in each course for which they are enrolled on or before the official census reporting date outlined on the LSCO Academic Calendar. Students documented as “not attending” a course upon the census date are assumed (for financial aid purposes) to have not begun attendance for that course This negatively affects their financial aid eligibility and disbursement and requires the student to repay any financial aid funds that have already been disbursed . Attendance in an ONLINE course is verified by substantial participation in the course on or before the census date published in the LSCO Academic Calendar. Substantial participation in this online course is defined as logging in and completing/participating in at least one requirement of the course. Note: Simply logging in to your online course does not constitute attendance.
Hybrid classes are a mix of face-to-face and online environments. Students will be expected to attend class during the scheduled meeting time. (Include the policy on absences and tardiness.) In addition to classroom attendance, your weekly active participation in the online component (Blackboard and/or homework software) will be considered and expected.
Hybrid-Flexible (HyFlex) courses utilize a blended course design that allows students to choose how they will ATTEND their class sessions. Students can choose to attend sessions in-person or live online without attending class on campus. A watch later option is available to students taking a HyFlex course, however, students may utilize watch later sessions no more than three classes during an 8-week term or five classes during a 16-week term.
