- Dress and Hygiene Code
To present a professional appearance, students are expected to attend class and lab consistently clean and neatly dressed in clothing that is in good repair and conducive to a learning environment.
1. Clothing: Clean, casual, nondisruptive clothing is appropriate for lecture class. The uniform appropriate for lab is black medical scrub top and scrub pants. Caps and headscarves are not professional attire and are not acceptable in lab sessions. Sweatbands and bandanas are allowed only during massage sessions.
2. Footwear: Appropriate footwear will be required at all times. Soft-soled closed-toe shoes and socks are required in lab.
3. Fingernails and hair: Keep fingernails clean, trimmed, and no longer than the tip of the finger. Hair should be neatly tied back before all hands-on exercises.
4. Jewelry: All sharp, dangling, or loose jewelry or other decorative accessories should be removed prior o massage for the protection of both the student and the receiver.
5. Perfumes and Body Odor: Refrain from using perfumes or other scents as other students and visitors may have severe reactions to these chemicals. As massage therapy is by nature a very close contact environment, all students are expected to bathe and groom regularly before coming to class.
- Cell Phones and Pagers
Cell phones and pagers are very disruptive to class. They must be turned off or set to mute while in the classroom or laboratory. Students may check and reply to voicemail and texts during breaks.
- Behavior
Student conduct and responsibilities are described in the LSCO Student Handbook. Disruptive behavior or any behavior that interferes with any educational activity being performed by the instructor will not be allowed. Additionally, no student may interfere with his/her fellow students’ right to pursue their academic goals to the fullest in an atmosphere appropriate to a community of scholars. Any student failing to abide by appropriate standards of conduct may be asked to leave that day’s class or activity and will be required to make up the time according to the Attendance Policy.
- It is the responsibility of the student to monitor the class schedule and prepare for each class and for understanding of what will be expected of him/her during the scheduled hours. If there is any question on expectations please contact the instructor.
- Students must bring the equipment necessary to complete each class (books and material specified).
- Each student is responsible for his or her own work and for the cleaning and returning of the classroom and laboratory to its original clean condition.
Please see Massage Therapy Code of Conduct for further instructions on expected classroom etiquette.

• Hybrid - When face-to-face meetings in the classroom are replaced by online meetings through discussion boards, emails, and/or Blackboard Collaborate, students are expected to follow the rules of netiquette in these forums.
• Hyflex - Whether attending in person or online (synchronously or asynchronously)—students are expected to engage respectfully and responsibly. Arrive prepared, minimize distractions, and participate actively using appropriate tools (e.g., microphones, chat, discussion boards). When joining remotely, keep your camera on when possible, mute your microphone when not speaking, and use the chat feature constructively. In the classroom, be mindful of peers who are joining online by speaking clearly and allowing space for all voices. All communication should remain professional.
