Attendance and Google Classroom Make-Up Work
Regular attendance is essential because the course builds vocabulary and skill daily. Students are responsible for checking Google Classroom after an absence for posted materials, assignments, and make-up work.
Google Classroom make-up work can replace missed academic assignments when appropriate, but it does not automatically replace in-person pronunciation checks, discussion evidence, clinic procedures, or teacher-supervised performance tasks.
Students who miss a test or major assessment must follow Goodrich ISD and Lamar procedures for make-up testing.
High School Grading Plan
Each six-week grading period is planned with 3 major/test grades and 12 assignment grades. Assignment grades include terminology worksheets, translation activities, report practice, projects, and Professional Dress beginning September 10, 2026.

Lamar Grade Recording
The instructor will maintain Lamar grades according to the assigned Lamar section/gradebook. Grades will be the same as the High school Grading Plan converted to Lamar Gradebook as indicated
Textbook / Materials Note
We will use iCEV and materials provided by the instructor during this course. iCEV access and other materials will be provided by Goodrich High School.
Supplies Helpful for This Classroom
· A 1.5–2 inch binder or folder with dividers for body systems, word parts, tests, and worksheets.
· Index cards or half-sheets for term-building cards.
· Highlighters or colored pencils for marking roots, prefixes, suffixes, and abbreviations.
· Dry-erase sleeves/markers for reusable report translation and term sorting.
· Optional classroom set: laminated body-system diagrams and medical abbreviation cards. No expensive mannequins or extra clinical equipment are needed specifically for Medical Terminology.
Source & Alignment Notes
Texas Education Agency: 19 TAC Chapter 127, Subchapter J, §127.477 Medical Terminology, February 2026 update; §127.15 employability skills embedded.
Lamar / LSCO: HITT 1305 Medical Terminology I course description and public syllabus information used to model course scope; assigned Lamar section controls final gradebook details.
Goodrich ISD / Instructor-Supplied: Goodrich first-semester calendar dates, high-school grading requirements, Google Classroom procedures, clinic/classroom context, and HIPAA/FERPA plan supplied by instructor.

Technology and Course Readiness
These courses require basic use of a computer, Chromebook or laptop, internet access, Google Chrome, Google Classroom, and basic English reading and communication skills.
Students will have access to school technology and internet services as needed during the school day. When additional computer time is needed, students may arrange with the instructor to use available school technology before or after school.
Students are responsible for arranging access needed for work completed outside the regular school day. Students who anticipate difficulty with technology access should communicate with the instructor before an assignment deadline whenever possible.
Technical Issues and Contingency Plan
Students should notify the instructor as soon as possible when a technical problem interferes with course work.
Students should also develop a reasonable backup plan for technology problems. A computer malfunction, lost internet connection, forgotten charger, or similar technology issue does not automatically excuse a missed deadline.
Students should use available options such as:
- a school Chromebook or computer;
- Goodrich ISD internet access;
- scheduled before- or after-school access;
- another available device;
- available public-library technology resources; or
- other arrangements approved by the instructor.
If a widespread district technology outage occurs, the instructor will provide appropriate instructions or adjustments.
This adapts the LSCO expectation that students plan for computer or internet interruptions while recognizing that your students attend class at Goodrich ISD rather than on the LSCO campus.
Student Support and Resources
Mental Health and Student Support
Goodrich ISD Students experiencing emotional distress, mental-health concerns, family difficulties, safety concerns, or other problems affecting school performance are encouraged to speak with a trusted adult.
Available school resources may include the:
- school counselor;
- school nurse;
- administrator;
- teacher; or
- another appropriate Goodrich ISD staff member.
Students should seek immediate adult assistance when there is a concern regarding personal safety or the safety of another person.
Students with Disabilities and Accommodations
Goodrich ISD will provide appropriate accommodations and services for eligible students in accordance with applicable federal and state requirements, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as applicable.
The instructor will implement accommodations identified in the student's current district-approved plan.
Students and parents are encouraged to communicate with the appropriate school personnel when they believe an accommodation or support is not being implemented effectively.
Safety, clinical, certification, and essential skill requirements will be addressed individually when accommodations interact with regulated healthcare training requirements.
LSCO Online Tutoring - Dual-Credit Students
Students enrolled in Lamar State College Orange dual-credit courses may have access to Upswing online tutoring services provided through LSCO.
Upswing offers online tutoring assistance in a variety of subjects. Students should use their LSCO credentials and follow the current directions provided by LSCO.
Because college services and availability may change, students should refer to the current LSCO tutoring/online tutoring information for access instructions.
Prohibited Items and Classroom Expectations
Students must follow the current Goodrich ISD Student Handbook and campus rules.
Unauthorized cell-phone use is not permitted during instructional activities unless the instructor specifically allows a device for an educational purpose.
Tobacco, nicotine products, vaping products, alcohol, drugs, weapons, and other prohibited items are not permitted in accordance with district policy and law.
Light snacks and water may be permitted when they do not interfere with instruction, laboratory activities, safety, infection-control requirements, equipment, or patient-care areas.
Food and drink may be restricted during skills laboratory or clinical activities.
Grade Questions and Appeals
Students who have a question about an assignment or grade should first speak with the instructor.
The goal of the first conversation is to review the assignment, grading criteria, calculation, or concern and determine whether an error or misunderstanding occurred.
If the matter cannot be resolved at the classroom level, the student or parent may follow the Goodrich ISD complaint or grade-review process, beginning with the appropriate campus administrator/principal.
For a dual-credit matter involving the official college record, the applicable LSCO academic or grade-appeal process may also apply.
Campus Closure or Emergency Schedule Change
School closures, delayed openings, emergency schedule changes, or other district-wide interruptions will follow Goodrich ISD procedures.
Official notifications will be distributed through district-approved communication methods.
Students should check Goodrich ISD announcements, Rooms, Google Classroom, and/or school email for course-specific instructions.
When school closure affects a dual-credit, certification, skills, laboratory, or clinical requirement, the instructor will provide instructions regarding rescheduling or make-up requirements.
Criminal Background, Registry, and Screening Requirements
This section is especially important for your CNA/MA pathway.
Certain Health Science programs, clinical facilities, certification organizations, licensing agencies, and employers may require students to complete criminal-background checks, employability or misconduct-registry searches, drug screening, or other eligibility screening.
A criminal history or other disqualifying finding may affect a student's ability to participate in clinical training, obtain certification or licensure, or work in certain healthcare occupations.
Enrollment in or successful completion of a Health Science course does not guarantee eligibility for clinical placement, certification, licensure, or employment.
When a Goodrich ISD Health Science course requires screening documentation, students and parents will receive the appropriate notice, consent forms, and instructions.
Screening records maintained specifically for CNA or another credentialing program will be handled as confidential program records and access will be limited to authorized individuals who have a legitimate educational, regulatory, clinical-placement, safety, or administrative need for the information.
For dual-credit programs, LSCO policies regarding criminal history and program eligibility may also apply.
Credit Transfer - Dual-Credit Courses Only
College-credit transfer decisions are made by the institution receiving the credit.
Students planning to attend another college or university should verify in advance whether the LSCO course will apply to their intended degree or certificate program.
Students should consult current LSCO catalog and transfer information and communicate with the receiving college or university when they have questions about transferability.
